Vivian Stewart - BA (Hons), MBA

Commercial exp: 23 years

Vivian is well-known to the technology, venture capital and early-stage finance communities in Australia. He enjoys being an early adopter of technology and seeks to identify trends and opportunities in the broad technology arena.

His entrepreneurial journey started in 1993, when at the age of 21 he co-founded and was an executive director of pioneering Australian Internet Service Provider - Magna Data. Magna Data led business Internet access in Australia and ultimately became the country's leading corporate ISP with offices in five cities. In 1999 Magna Data was sold to Davnet Limited.

Vivian worked with boutique corporate advisory firm Hall Capital as a Director and COO from 2005 to 2014 on many successful assignments for public and private companies including acquisitions, divestments, capital raising, and related commercial strategy.

Highlights include: sale of two separate data centres to Vocus Communications for a combined $19M; Hills Holdings $33.5M acquisitions of Merlon Health Communications and Hospital Television Rentals; Vocus Communications on their reverse listing on to the ASX for $20M; wholesale VOIP solutions company Freshtel Holdings Ltd on their $13.2M share placement.

Vivian is an Independent Non-Executive Director of ASX-listed telecommunications company Superloop Ltd which owns and operates fibre optic & wireless networks in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. Vivian was Director of BigAir Group Ltd for eight years and its most recent Chairman until it was acquired by Superloop in 2016 for circa $190m.

Vivian is a Board Director of Walls 360, Inc. the leading global creator of digital wall graphics, bases in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

In 2008 Vivian worked together with a number of passionate colleagues to create Sydney Angels – an early stage investment group now recognised as a leader in the angel investment sector. This was soon followed with the establishment of the $10M Sydney Angels Sidecar Fund, at the time the first and largest angel sidecar/co-investment fund in the southern hemisphere. Vivian is a member of the Sydney Angels Management Committee and a co-founder and Director of Proto Investment Partners, the manager of the Fund.

In 1999, Vivian co-founded early-stage investment group TiNSHED which specialised in the internet, media and telecommunications sectors. As leader of the deal team and Chief Technology Officer, Vivian assessed hundreds of investment opportunities and established the systems to track & process them. TiNSHED was funded by a number of well-known high net worth individuals with whom he worked on a regular basis to get deals funded.

Post TiNSHED, Vivian was a Commercialisation Manager with the University of Technology, Sydney. Between 1996 and 1999 Vivian worked in Hong Kong for Intel Corporation where he managed multiple marketing programs and online brands throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Vivian has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from The University of Sydney and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Entrepreneurs’ Organisation.

Outside Callafin Vivian might be found playing water polo, spending time with his wife and young son or cheering on the Waratahs and Wallabies.
