Tony Sullivan - B.E, MBA

Commercial exp: 32 years

Tony started his career as a Civil Engineer and spent 10 years in the construction industry, working in New Zealand, southern Africa and in the Asia-Pacific region. He has an engineer’s approach to project management, strategy development and problem solving, meaning he is both thorough and creative.

Thirty years of experience in all key transactions steps, including financial analysis, valuation, deal structures and due diligence bring invaluable depth to Callafin’s offering.

Prior to joining Callafin, Tony was a Director with Hall Capital Strategies where he worked on a number of acquisition & divestment mandates and capital raisings: Fund raising for Obelix Lifting Systems, purchase of Questek nurse call business, purchase of Merlon Healthcare Communications & Hospital Television Rentals.

Prior to Callafin, Tony spent two years with Hills Holdings undertaking a strategic review across the portfolio of investments and completing two acquisitions and one business sale: sale of Hills Healthcare to Anacacia Capital, acquisition of Lan1, a technology distributor of communication & network solutions, and acquisition of Herma Technologies, a protector screen manufacturer.

In four years with Alesco Corporation Tony developed & implemented a strategic planning process across the Group & completed numerous acquisitions across businesses in Australia & New Zealand: NuTech, gas & environment monitoring equipment distributor; EnviroEquip, gas & environmental monitoring equipment distributors; Datataker, manufacturer of date logging equipment; Senser Technologies, gas & environmental instruments distributor; Promedica, medical consumables distribution, Australia; & Davidson Measurement, calibration equipment distributor and service operator.

Other highlights of this period at Alesco included: Acquisition of App-Tek, gas & environmental monitoring equipment distributor; $84m acquisition of Lincoln Sentry; $90m sale of Automotive Division; acquisition of Jacobs Medical, medical imaging distributor; $230m acquisition of B&D Garage Doors as well as 14 other bolt-on acquisitions.

At the OPSM Group Tony developed a strategy review process for the Group, managed a major portfolio review and subsequent sales of the Protector businesses. Tony led an acquisition program across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong for the OPSM optical business & was involved in the defence team on Luxottica takeover of the Group.

Tony was also a senior executive at Australian Mezzanine Investments, a private equity investment fund and NZI Securities in their corporate advisory team with focus on M&A and IPO listings.

Tony has a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Auckland, an MBA from Cranfield School of Management, United Kingdom, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Tony’s interests outside of work are his grandchild, photography, the great outdoors and New Zealand’s national sport.
